Rose

Rose McCan‘s passion for Irish folk music began on a St. Paddy’s Day in a pub in Zurich, where countless pub-goers sang along to countless «Dubliners» songs. This was and remained an unforgettable and formative experience.

In the following 20 years, she familiarized herself with many instruments, became a session-goer, was active in loose and fixed formations, managed for a time an extensive event calendar for the local Irish folk scene, led a bodhrán group, was leader and co-leader of learning sessions and is still active as a founding member of the «Alte Kaserne»-Sessions in Winterthur, where she still helps to provide the supporting programs for top-class «Celtic» concerts.

Her joy in Irish folk music, but also her songwriting talent, led her to start writing her own songs / tunes in Irish folk style. In her repertoire you can also find many traditional songs as well as unusual cover versions, like her distinctive „EirischFouk“ songs (Irish popular songs in Swiss German). And as a counterbalance to so much Irish music, she has recently started to work on her old dialect songs again. Of course, the assimilated Irish soul swings along here as well.

Rose McCan is an artist with many Irish folk facets, who loves to write songs, create unusual covers, prefers to accompany herself with mandola or guitar and enjoys working her bodhrán at informal sessions.
