Sometimes Irish folk-crazy musicians/singers reach a point, where certain tunes/songs have been performed too often to want to continue celebrating them more. So why not sing them in Swiss German for a change?
“Du, min Schatz”, the Swiss German version of “Danny Boy” was released on the popular streaming plattforms on 25/8/2023. Here find another example:
The Wild Rover belongs to the category “unknown composer” (approx. 1813-1838). It was originally written as a teetotaler song and travelled via the temperance movement from Scotland to America. It eventually formed the basic for the anthem «No Nay Never» that was played in the stadium of the Burnley Football Club (founder member of the football league 1888) whenever they played against their local rivals “the Blackburn Rovers”.
